1. How Can I Recycle in Wellington?

Wellington's household recycling of cardboard, newspaper, plastics and metal is accomplished using the recycling toters provided to residents. Residents can participate in Recycle Bank and earn points toward discounts with local and national retailers.

The Lorain County Solid Waste District also operates a Collection Center in Elyria that accepts special recyclables, such as household hazardous waste, e-scrap, florescent lamps and ballast and scrap tires. Police Department

1. How do I go about getting a copy of a police report?

Stop in at the police station at 117 Willard Memorial Square, anytime Monday through Friday between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm to pick up a copy, or fax in your request to (440) 647-3641. Please allow at least 24 hours after the report was taken for it to be released. Reports that are currently being investigated will not be released.

2. I locked my keys in my car, can you unlock my car?

No. You will have to contact either a towing company of your choice, a locksmith or a car dealer. As anti-theft devices have become more sophisticated the department cannot unlock vehicles due to damage liability.

3. My neighbor’s dog is constantly barking and/or running loose. Is there anything I can do?

Yes. The Village of Wellington does have a barking dog ordinance as well as a leash law. Call us at (440) 647-2244 and we will respond to your complaint.

4. Can I leave my car parked downtown overnight?

No. There is no parking on downtown streets between the hours of 3:00 am to 5:00 am. Also, there is a 2 hour parking limit downtown. There are two Village off-street parking lots that are marked with 24 hour parking areas that may be used overnight. One of these lots is located behind the Town Hall, the other is located on the south side of West Herrick and Prospect Street beside the railroad tracks

5. Can the Police Department do fingerprinting?

6. It snowed last night. Should I call the police department to see if school was cancelled?

No. The local school districts do not call to inform us of school closings. You can find that information through television, radio or even the School District's website.

2. When will they be picking up the leaves on my street?

Leaves will be picked up as they begin to accumulate in the tree lawns. The crew starts in one corner of the Village and make their way through on a continual as needed basis, until the majority of the leaves have been collected.

3. Do you pick up leaves in the spring? If not, what can I do with my leaves in the spring?

Leaves are only picked up in the fall. If you have an accumulation of leaves in the spring, they can be put into a compost bin and used as mulch.

4. Do you collect, or have a place to dump grass clippings?

We do not take any grass clippings. Grass clippings are highly combustible and should be left on your lawn; the grass clippings actually improve lawn quality. Grass recycling is the single most cost effective method of dealing with grass clippings, and makes a major contribution toward conserving landfill space.

1. Can my security deposit carry over to a new address?

Yes, once final bill has been paid on property you are leaving.

2. Do I have to put a deposit down?

Yes, renters or those buying land contract, must put a deposit down. You will get it back after 2 years of good payments or after moving out and the final bill is paid in full.

In person, by mail, use our night drop, by phone w/mastercard, visa, or automatically taken out of checking or savings account.

Water / Wastewater Department

1. I do not think I am getting sufficient water pressure, what should I do?

Pour a sample of your water in a container that you can give to us in case we need to test it. Then contact the Water Department at (440) 647-3164 to let us know of your concern.

3. I have a question about my water or sewer bill, who do I contact?

4. What are the regulations for using the up-ground reservoir?

Fishing boats are welcome to use the reservoir but the operation of gasoline engines is prohibited. Bilge water plugs should not be pulled at the boat ramp or at the top of the reservoir. 5. How are water and sewer rates established?

The water and sewer systems are enterprise funds, the fees for those services are set by the Village Council to assure that the fund is self-sustaining. Our rates are very competitive with surrounding communities and other systems.
